New Creative Writing Courses at the Kemptown Bookshop, Autumn 2007
BEGINNERS – 10 weekly classes on Tuesday evenings, 7 – 9pm, starting September 18th 2007
Are you interested in writing fiction, but don't know where to begin? This course explores all the basic elements of fiction writing to help you get started.
Using a range of written exercises and stimuli, we will look at finding ideas and storylines; developing characters and dialogue; descriptive writing, structure and plot. The course also offers group members the opportunity to share their work for feedback, in a friendly and supportive environment.
FURTHER INTO FICTION – 10 weekly classes on Monday evenings, 7 – 9pm, starting September 17th 2007
This is an Intermediate level course, for those with some writing experience. Perhaps you have completed a Beginners course, or have been writing for some time – this course is designed to help you develop your fiction writing.
Using a range of written exercises and stimuli, we will look at aspects of writing such as characterisation, narrative drive, point of view, dialogue , atmosphere and use of imagery. Individual workshop time is also allocated to each writer, for constructive criticism of your work, in a friendly and supportive environment.

BOTH COURSES are led by Jane Hansford.
Jane has an M.A. in Creative Writing (Sussex University), and a B.A. in Theater Studies (Dartington College of Arts). She had a play broadcast on Radio 4 last year, and wrote the winning short story for QueenSpark Books first competition. She also writes plays for young people, and leads drama and writing workshops in schools.
